The UK Driving Test is split into two parts as shown below. You must also pass the theory test before you can make a booking for the practical test.
Part 1: The Theory and Hazard Perception Test
The theory test is split into two parts which are 50 Multiple Choice Questions and 14
Hazard Perception video clips. Both parts must be passed at the same attempt to pass the test.
Waiting time for a test: 2-3 weeks
Price: £31
Part 2: The Practical Driving Test
Waiting time for a test: 6-9 weeks
Price: £62
When you are approaching the required standard for the test you will be advised to make a booking,
taking into account the current waiting time. The easiest way to make a booking is using the DSA's online
booking system. On average, successful pupils have had around 45 hours of lessons with an approved
driving instructor and 22 hours of private practice, however, this can vary greatly between pupils.
